Kitchen makeover.
Like many brownstones, our Brooklyn rental has a tiny kitchen off a large dining area. But our kitchen also used to be seriously ugly: the particleboard cabinets were the color of manila file folders. (See the “before” pic below, which is actually a shot of the inside of one of the cabinets. Haven’t tackled that side yet…) For two years I was too busy to take on a kitchen makeover project. I considered covering up the cabinets’ trim with colored or printed Japanese masking tape. I thought about using contact paper to somehow “wallpaper” them. Then a few months ago, I finally had time to paint them. I completely copied this couple’s kitchen after reading about it on Apartment Therapy. The end result felt a bit stark at first, but after adding some plants and colorful tea towels, I think the space feels fresh and welcoming.
